Mail order chef catalogs! The term “mail order” explains the process of buying goods that are delivered to buyers by the mail services. The buyer orders the product that he wants by mailing in his order or by telephoning it in, and the product then arrives to the customer’s home via the postal services. Sometimes, though not very frequently, the ordered product gets delivered to a nearby retail location and the customer needs to pick it up himself. Another option for shipping the ordered product is to have it delivered to a third party, especially when it is a gift that is being sent to someone that lives out of town.

The term “mail order catalogue” is referred to a publication that lists the products that a certain company sells or manufactures for the purpose of selling. The mail order catalogues are published in the same fashion as are magazines and they are distributed in many different ways but the most popular means are via postal services and the Internet.
Some stores or companies issue mail order catalogues only for promotional or sales items while others include all the items that they stock in their mail order catalogues.

According to the National Mail Order Association (NMOA.org), Benjamin Franklin was the first person to issue and send a mail order catalogue in 1744 to sell scientific and academic books. Likewise, he was the first person to offer a mail order guarantee that stated: “Those persons who live remote, by sending their orders and money to B. Franklin may depend on the same justice as if present.”
The earliest mail order business that is still alive and working today is known as Hammacher Schlemmer and it was established by Alfred Hammacher in New York City in 1848. Its first catalogue was published in 1881 and offered tools to mechanics and hardware to builders. It is known as America’s longest running mail order catalogue.

The first mail order catalogue ever sent out was in 1872 by Aaron Montgomery Ward for his mail order business in Chicago. This revolutionary idea of a mail order catalogue consisted of one page with a price list, descriptions of the goods and instructions for ordering them. With time, of course, Ward’s catalogues got bigger and heavier and appeared with better illustrations. Rural families called these catalogues “dream books.” Within twenty years this single page catalogue grew to 540 pages that promote over 20,000 items.

Specialty catalogues are produced, directed and distributed to a particular group of people who have specific common interests or those who are members of a particular profession or industry. Chef catalogues are specialty catalogues that promote products and services that are useful and necessary to chefs.

Whether they are hard copy catalogues or online Internet catalogues, Chef catalogs offer such items as cookware, bakeware, flatware, glassware, servingware, cutlery, dishes, utensils, table linens, kitchen tools, table settings, kitchen electrics, spices, specialty foods, chef uniforms and accessories, kitchen cleaning products, and cookbooks. Some chef catalogues offer products carried by a specific store of company, such as you will see at www.williams-sonoma.com. Other chef catalogues offer products of certain brands only. And still other chef catalogues, such as you can see at www.chefscatalog.com, offer products of many different brands and multiple sources.

Spend wisely and enjoy every moment of the process.
