Copy Cat Recipe For 11 Herbs And Spices
Kentucky Fried Chicken is loved across the country and there are many recipes online that try to duplicate the great taste of Colonel Sanders tasty treats. After many tries at preparing the perfect chicken I have learned that there are several factors that have a great influence on your finished product.
Use Crisco shortening versus vegetable oil, I find that Crisco tends to do a better job at cooking the chicken. Use a well season flour to coat the chicken before frying. Remember those 11 herbs and spices, they are an important factor in the Colonel’s recipe.
Here is a recipe for seasoned flour to get you started, and it is just that. Adjust the recipe as you see fit tweaking ingredients until your happy with the results.
3 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon paprika
2 teaspoon garlic salt
2 teaspoons onion salt
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried rubbed sage
1/2 teaspoon dried powdered rosemary
1/2 teaspoon dried powdered thyme
1 teaspoon dried parsley
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
Combine all ingredients. I like to double coat my chicken for extra crispy flavor and texture.
Makes 31/2 cups of seasoned flour

cooked your copy cat Kentucky Fried Chicken recipe this afternoon. Turned out really good but I made a couple changes. I soaked the chicken in cold salt water for a hour, and then put 2 cups of buttermilk in a plastic bag with the chicken and left it in the frig for 18 hours. Next time I make it I am going to bake it in the oven, to see if I can eliminate losing the coating.

While traveling to Florida years ago we stopped at a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant and got a bucket of the original recipe chicken. There was a spice in the chicken that haunted me during vacation. That spice was nutmeg! I noticed that the above recipe did not include nutmeg. Now when I make fried chicken I always add it. You don’t need much but at least 1/4 teaspoon.

I like your recipe for KFC with TEN herbs and spices. Perhaps the letter from Carole on 13th December adds the missing ingredient: Nutmeg. So now we have 11 herbs and spices after all.

The secret to KFC fried chicken is accent seasoning aka MSG– it creates that gummy texture. The other secret is a special pot the Colonel sold, a pressure cooker deep fryer. It pressure cooks the chicken in oil. (not something that can really be done at home)

I made your seasoning and baked the chicken, although it did not remind me of KFC, it tasted exactly like A&W’s chubby chicken, and tastes awesome, really cool recipe, and cheaper then buying shake ‘n’ bake, Thanks.
Funky.
